Aer Lingus unveils brand new routes from Cork to Bilbao and Bordeaux for summer 2025

Dec 10, 2024

10th December 2024: Aer Lingus today announces the launch of two new summer 2025 routes from Cork Airport, bringing more travel options to customers seeking vibrant European destinations. Starting in late spring, Aer Lingus will operate direct flights to the culturally rich cities of Bilbao and Bordeaux three times a week, with fares from €59.99.

These new routes are part of Aer Lingus's commitment to providing customers flying from Cork more choice when it comes to leisure travel. Both Bilbao and Bordeaux are renowned for their rich heritage, stunning architecture, and unique cuisine, making them perfect destinations for summer travel.

Bordeaux: Renowned as the wine capital of France, Bordeaux is home to many vineyards and châteaux where visitors can enjoy tours and tastings. The city even has a landmark museum, La Cité du Vin, dedicated to its celebrated wine culture. Bordeaux's culinary scene is equally impressive, featuring delicacies such as Bordeaux-style steak and oysters from the nearby Bassin d’Arcachon. For those seeking to explore the sights, the city’s gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-see. Flights will operate three times a week from May 15th to September 13th, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with fares from €59.99.

Bilbao: Experience traditional Basque culture in Bilbao, a city that’s recognised for its inimitable art scene and cuisine. Visitors to Bilbao can enjoy strolls through the Casco Viejo (Old Town), taking in notable landmarks like the Santiago Cathedral. It wouldn’t be a visit to Bilbao if you didn’t sample the local pintxos – bitesize delicacies that can be found in the myriad of bars throughout the city. With its collection of modern art, the Guggenheim Museum is another local attraction that is not to be missed. From April 16th, ahead of the Easter break, flights will operate three times a week until September 14th, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with fares from €59.99.

Reid Moody, Aer Lingus Chief Strategy & Planning Officer, said: “These new routes from Cork provide our customers with more opportunities to explore European culture. Bilbao and Bordeaux are both rich in history, heritage and we know our customers will enjoy new direct connections to discover these destinations. These routes are fantastic additions to Aer Lingus’ network, and we look forward to welcoming customers flying from Cork on board for an unforgettable travel experience."

Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development & Communications at Cork Airport“Adding to what is already shaping up to be a very exciting Summer Schedule, today's announcement of two new Aer Lingus services is superb news and is warmly welcomed. With a new direct connection to Bilbao, located in the heart of the Basque region, customers from across the South of Ireland can enjoy the famous culture, gastronomy, and scenery that Northern Spain has to offer. It will also provide very convenient access to the Camino de Santiago. Coupled with the addition of Bordeaux to the summer route network, I'd like to thank Aer Lingus for their continued commitment to Cork Airport. We look forward to jointly promoting these new services and the wider Aer Lingus summer schedule in the weeks ahead.”

Sun seekers flying from Cork Airport will also enjoy additional frequency to popular summer sun destinations, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca in 2025. Direct flights from Cork to Palma de Mallorca will operate five times per week from 1st May, to Lanzarote four times per week and Tenerife three times per week from 30th March.
