Cork Airport Launches New €100,000 Summer Advertising Campaign

Apr 07, 2015

Passengers across Munster are set to benefit from increased services from Cork Airport this year. Ryanair announced last week that it is to add an additional 18,000 seats to Gran Canaria, Palma De Mallorca, Liverpool, Malaga and Lanzarote this September and October from Cork Airport.

The increased capacity comes after Aer Lingus Regional recently launched a new service from Cork to Newcastle in addition to increased frequency on their services to Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow and Rennes while Aer Lingus has increased its Heathrow service to five times a day and Ryanair set to add increased flights on the London Stansted route next winter.

Kevin Cullinane, Head of Communications for Cork Airport was keen to emphasise how Munster passengers will benefit from the increased route capacity at Cork Airport this year. “Cork Airport has excellent connectivity to over 50 destinations in the UK and Europe for passengers from Munster with increased flights on a number of very popular routes this summer, in addition to the new Aer Lingus Regional Newcastle service.

“As a gateway to Europe’s most popular destinations, Cork Airport is the obvious choice when travelling from the south of Ireland due to the 50 plus destinations served, the number of daily departures and the fact that Cork Airport is so much closer to people living in the southern counties than other airports.”

In addition to increased flights, Cork Airport has also unveiled a major new €100,000 advertising campaign rolling out across the Munster region, to promote flights from Cork Airport. The new 'Closer to Home' advertising campaign, which launched this week, has been specifically developed to drive awareness throughout the south of Ireland catchment area for Cork Airport, namely counties Cork, Tipperary, Kerry, Limerick and  Waterford.

Kevin Cullinane continued, “Cork Airport is very important in terms of connectivity for the businesses and the multi-national sector in Munster and has a vital role to play in facilitating and developing the inbound tourism sector in the region. Cork Airport’s new €100,000 advertising campaign is designed to drive awareness of the Airport's offering across the whole of Munster and make the south of Ireland catchment area aware of the benefits and choice when you fly from Cork.”

The new ‘Closer to Home’ advertising campaign was designed by Cawley Nea. Speaking about the campaign Shireen McDonagh from Cawley Nea said “We were briefed with an exciting task, to bring Cork, Ireland's second largest airport, into the hearts and minds of people from the south of Ireland and not just from Cork. The fact is, travelling can be stressful, but not when you travel from Cork Airport - it has a unique calmness like no other airport and people from the south of Ireland don't have to get stressed getting there, they can avoid the headache before their holiday. That's why the campaign ‘Closer to Home’, has remained true to a tone and a style that can only truly be owned by the busiest airport in the south of Ireland, Cork Airport!"

Cork Airport is the international gateway to the south of Ireland serving the greater Munster region. Welcoming more than 15,000 passengers a day in peak season, it is the country’s busiest airport after Dublin. More than 2.3 million passengers travel through the airport each year, flying to more than 50 destinations across Europe.
