Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Stobart Air, today announced 12% growth at its Cork base in November, compared to the same period last year.

The figures were released today as the airline celebrated record numbers in Cork, with 1.2 million passengers flown on Cork services since the Aer Lingus Regional franchise began in 2010.

It was the ninth consecutive month of growth for the airline’s operations there, and the airline’s overall seventeenth consecutive month of growth.

88,973 passengers flew Aer Lingus Regional in November, up 2% on the same month last year. The total number of passengers flown from January to November was 1,226,112, an additional 20% on the same period in 2013.

The Cork to Glasgow route grew significantly last month, by 36% year-on-year. Passenger numbers were boosted by the Ireland versus Scotland UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier.

The Dublin to Newcastle route grew 20% year-on-year, while the airline’s new Dublin to Leeds Bradford route completed a successful first month of service, flying 4,400 passengers.

Commenting on the month’s figures, Simon Fagan, Chief Commercial Officer at Stobart Air, said the airline was “pleased to have maintained momentum and growth throughout the year.”

“We are very proud of our seventeenth month of growth. It demonstrates that our reliable, efficient and convenient services to key cities across the UK and Ireland continue to resonate with our passengers. In particular, our growth at Cork highlights our commitment to the airport and the region,” said Mr Fagan.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, said: “We have had a very successful partnership with Stobart Air this year with strong passenger numbers on all routes. This is testament to the engagement and dedication of our respective teams to deliver world class customer service this year.

“Marking record passenger numbers for Aer Lingus Regional services operated by Stobart Air at Cork Airport is a fantastic start to the Christmas celebrations, with 100,000 happy children and parents travelling through the airport this holiday season. It is great to see people from right across Munster choosing to fly Cork,” he added.
